Default 1978 F150 Transmission slipping

Hi, I have a 1978 F150 camper special with a 351W and automatic transmission. Lately the transmission has been not wanting to engage/drop into gear when starting out. It will just sit there and spin as though in neutral for a few seconds before dropping into 1st. This only happens when its cold. After the thing warms up it works perfectly. Also Ive never had a problem with the transmission once at speed.

Any thoughts? Would a change in fluid help?

Mike

Drop the pan and change the internal filter. It sounds restricted and can't get any oil when cold.

I put some trans x in the tranny and it seems to be working great.
