Default Tachometer signal wire

Adding an aftermarket tach to my 86 F150 w/302. Is there a signal wire inside to attach to or do I need to go to the coil. Is it the green wire at the coil?

Not aware of any interior wire, but I'm referencing 70's and I know in the later 80's they did have a factory tach option, not sure what year that was added. To make it easy, just run it out to the coil. The coil tach sensor wire should be green indeed. Coils usually have wires running to 2 sides, the side you DO NOT want to hook into will sat BAT

Yes, all '86s have a factory DG/Y tach wire going to the instrument cluster. Don't punch any unnecessary holes or wires through the firewall.

At the instrument cluster connector, of course.

Do you know how to remove the cluster?
