1973-79 F-150 Door Wiring Location
I have a 1979 F-150. I'm the second owner. The first owner was deaf, so of course he ordered it without a factory radio.
I know that this is completely insane as far as modification go, so please forgive me, but I'd like to add a radio.
I bought a pair of the OEM style wires from LMC (part number 47-3590) that go between the door jamb and the door. I'd like to drill the holes in the same location as the factory did.
If someone that owns a truck (that came with a factory radio installed) between those years and would be so kind and share with me a picture and/or measurements of both holes that would be great.
Thank you,
Joe

Ford usually requires all holes be center-punched by the body suppliers so they can be drilled. Read this caption:

Use the harness you have as a guide where to look for those dimples. Measure the grommet on the harness for the hole-saw size.

Pictures of door jamb and loom
Thank you for the reply. I uploaded 4 pictures to show what I'm looking at here. The first 3 are all from the drivers side. The passenger door is a mirror image of course.
I don't see the "center punch" that you were referring to.
My assumption is that the large 1" grommet goes in the depression that is highlighted in the red rectangle on the first picture.
The second picture is a closer look into what the depression looks like.
The third picture is of the door where I suppose the 3/4" grommet would be located.
I could have this reversed.
The fourth picture is the new loom.
I've read that you want the door grommet placed lower than the jamb grommet so that water would flow away from the higher jamb grommet to the door grommet as the door has drainage holes.
I guess I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for someone driving a '73-'79 pickup and see if they'll honor my strange request for a photo or measurement of his door wires.
They are going to think that I'm a weirdo for sure.

Wish I could help you. We bought my 1977 new. It is a higher end luxury decor truck, but only had a AM radio. It still has a factory speaker in the dash, although it is disconnected.. My truck has speaker grills in the door, but I don't remember if it had speakers. I believe it did not. We took the AM out shortly after buying the truck, put in a new head unit and speakers in the doors. It doesn't have factory wires, though....Heavier aftermarket speaker wire was ran through holes in the middle of both sides of the lower hinge.
Looks to me like you would have to drill some pretty big holes to get the plugs through on that wire.

I know a guy with a couple of these trucks. I will have to check out his doors.

Most people who own & drive antiques appreciate the attention they get, and are friendly & helpful toward other antique owners; especially those with similar vehicles. Just keep some good pics on your phone of your old truck parked beside whatever you'll be driving when you stop a truck like yours. That way, they can see you really own one.
You should also look INSIDE the door. In later doors, there's a reinforcement at the front where the hinge bolts go, with a cutout for the wiring harness. If yours has something similar, that will tell you where the hole needs to be.

I'm sure you're right Steve. I know that I'd be happy to chat with people about my/their trucks. Who doesn't like to talk trucks?
That's good advice. I'll take a peek to see what's going on inside the door too. I appreciate the tip.
