Honestly if you can't afford the money for insurance and such on it I would park it. We have all been there at one point and I have had to put projects on hold also, but if you can't afford insurance and such you would be better off parking it and working on something that way.

I would recommend a wire kit then if you still really want to do something, it will take a while to complete the upgrade and give you that sense of still working on your project.

that's what im doing its sitting I my yard now and working on it when I get a chance sine I have out everything I need here to work on it I live out in middle of nowhere so I can drive it if I want without being harassed

what's the bet place the get a complete wire kit because im going to leave the stock gauges and most of the work as they should but there's wire everywhere under the dash I would like to clean it up

also what would yall recommend for a speedometer cable need one a little longer than stock since these didn't come with 390s so it sits back a little to for to hook it up under the dash

I have done Ron Francis and Painless kits in my vehicles.

Both were prety straight forward, as far as price it was easier to call and tell them specifically what you have and have them quote you a price, the universal kits are ok at best but it costs no more to have them just build one for you.

As far as a speedo cable you should be able to just any universal one, auto zone or Orielly's, or even better order it off ebay or the likes...

I did a similar project to yours. Best upgrades I did was disk brakes on the front and power steering. Disk brakes are a direct bolt on from model year 76 on down. Knock out the kingpins from the donor truck and take everything from the kingpins on out plus the proportioning valve. Very inexpensive. Power steering gearbox and pump came from an early 70's Econoline van. The gearbox bolts directly to the frame. The pump is a bolt on as well. It was a fun project. Mine was a 66 Ranger (Mustang bucket seats) shortbox.
