For those with a Powerboost, have you come across any issues with wiring your dashcam to the always hot wire and battery? I ask as from viewing various threads the aux battery appears to be very sensitive to changes in voltage and throwing up errors to the owners… wondering if I should just wire to only live when vehicle is running? Thank you.
Just throwing this option out since I don't think I read it from any posters...
OwlCam.com...cost is 200 and has built in WIFI through AT&T in addition to onboard HD. If the camera gets stolen, they will give you another one (with paid yearly fee, video is also in cloud and obtainable via their app even if/when the cam is stolen to aid in this policy)
Yearly fee applies for the WIFI connection, if you opt out of that cost then you still have the on board HD and can do a direct WIFI connect to the cam from your phone IF it's close (think BlueTooth range) but again no access to it remotely so if the camera is stolen you're out of luck and cannot get your video without that paid yearly or monthly sub cost.
The great thing is this camera connects to the OBD port with the included plug...for those not wanting to lose access to their OBD Owl sells an adapter that makes turns yours into a dual OBD so you can plug in the cam and still have an OBD for any Diags..
Cam has mobile app alerts for when it thinks you could have been bumped or hit (with paid sub)
You can LIVE view inside or outside view at any time with paid sub (includes two way talk feature)
Cam is on and recording sound and video on interior and video for exterior when truck is on and then has "guard mode" to save battery life but still reactivates when it senses a bump or something... stays in guard mode for up to 3 days without the vehicle being started
Great video quality and comes with multiple sized brackets to help mount to the lower part of dash and comes with the wire hide tool to run the cable to the OBD
I'm using the Vantrue 3 channel dashcam E3. I used the car charger cable to power the dashcam, but thought of getting the parking mode to work while the car is parked, I bought an OBD cable. Compared with hardwire kit, the OBD cable was installed easier than the OBD cable.
Thinkware Q800 pro, wired to a neocell battery pack under the passenger seat so parking mode doesn't impact the truck's battery. Got it from blackbox my car.
I’ve had the same camera for 4 years with zero issues, but I went the expensive route and used a lithium iron oxide battery to power it.
It works non stop for days in -45°C to 40°C with a much lower fire risk.
I pulled my headliner A, B, & C pillar trim to route the cables away from the airbag system.
I wired the battery under the passenger seat and ran the power cables under the centre console trim.
Lastly used a BlendMount bracket to secure it to my mirror since manufacturer mounts all suck.
I use a Blackview DR900X - 2 channel and will upload photos of my installation.
RCMP was able to catch someone trying breaking into my neighbour’s house and press charges with the parking mode motion capture it recorded one morning, so that’s a win.

I’ll quote my own post from the other thread. The quality from both the front and rear cams is amazing on the Viofo A139.
I wired mine from the power that goes to the rear window slider switch up in the overhead console. Power and ground when ignition is on right there. I actually installed a 12v to USB converter up in there. The dash cam runs off USB.
The rear view mirror tap DongarTechs were not in stock when I did mine.

No wires showing anywhere other than where they go up into the headliner. The front cam is hidden behind the rear view mirror and cannot be seen from either the passenger or drivers seat unless you duck down and look up under the mirror.
I also got the lens dead center in the windshield which makes my OCD real happy. The rear can’t be centered unless it’s mounted on the slider, so that does not make my OCD happy but I’ll survive.

Great timing on the post and pics. Waiting arrival of Viofo a139 Pro presently and was debating exactly where on front to position. Like your setup!

Thanks, yeah that spot works great. You cannot even see the cam at all from any seat in the truck other than the passenger seat and even then just barely.
I was happy to get it dead center as well.
It’s a great cam, quality is amazing. I now have one in all 3 of my vehicles.

I have a Viofo also and have been pleased! I have the rear camera but haven't installed it yet. What routing did you take the rear cam wire back? Did you go in the head liner? If you did, can you share a few tips on how to do that?
