Default Trailer disconnected warning

I recently purchased a 2022 F-150 with 75k miles. A Trailer Disconnected warning comes on constantly. I might be stopped at a light, turning left, turning right, accelerating or slowing down. Cruising on the hwy or creeping through a school zone. It makes no difference. Totally random. It does without a trailer attached. Took it to the local Ford dealer - they had it for two weeks and all they did was replace the female 7/4 pin adapter on the rear bumper. The next day the warning message was back. I’m trying to get it scheduled for them to look at it again. It might be helpful if anyone here has already found a solution for this so I can pass the hint to the tech about where to start.

Any chance you have one of those receiver mounted 4th brake lights that plug in to the 4-pin connector? I've gotten all of those trailer disconnected warnings randomly and frequently (not every time) ever since I installed this one:

I was having phantom trailer issues on my 2015. Ended up having the towing module reprogrammed and it solved my problems. Log into Fords website for your truck and look thru all of the recalls and TSB's. That's where I found it.

No, the only thing I've added are running boards. Thanks for asking.

I've seen similar feedback from other feeds and sources so this sounds like it's probably the issue. I've been trying all week to get an appointment at the dealer to get it back in the shop. Unfortunately they are completely overrun with Broncos having recall work done.

Thanks for your input!

I get that message flashing up momentarily from time to time also (while not towing) but it goes away almost instantly and does not recur. But this truck has various odd electronic bugaboos. I don't have a TBC and have never towed with this truck.

Almost 15 years now in 6 F150 every single on has had trailer issue warnings. Usually after I was it. PITA but goes away.

I'd question firstly whether the truck is fully up to date with all software Updates, or whether it's capable of getting them. There were a number of trailer software updates on these trucks. Plus dozens of other updates.

If I remember correctly, there was a discussion on this or another forum where the wiring harness from the 4/7pin connector to the rest of the truck had to be repaired or replaced to address this issue.

I did tape around the connector under the truck this summer and did not have the issue this winter. I used that sticky seal tape.
