I did this on a 2017 F250 and it was a fairly easy job. I didn't remove the tailgate completely, just removed the passenger side from the hinge and let the tailgate rest on the bumper. Slowed the process down a bit, as it was slower to remove/replace the screws, but I was working alone and no way I was going to be able to manhandle the tailgate. I assume the F150 is similar process.

I have it on my ‘21 XL STX. It works great for less than $30. Easy install. Nothing weird other than you have to remove the tie down cleat on the driver’s side of the tailgate.
