  • fixed running board saves 17#. I thought the hit from the power running boards was higher - may be around 50#
I have a bit fewer drops but by your numbers - about 187# improvement - getting me close to but below 1500#. However, the caveats are:
  • Are these saving numbers correct? Too high? Too low?
  • I have one add - Max tow. That might subtract something as well.
  • I'd love to add the Active Motion seats but that is forcing 20" wheels and running boards, etc.
Without the Max tow package the PB can still tow 11,000#’s and you would save a couple pounds weight as well.

I head you, and the thought had occurred to me. But, I am not keen to go this direction because towing is the main reason we are buying the truck. So, it doesn’t seem like the best place to buy payload.

If you order without the max tow package, are you still getting the engine and transmission coolers, brake controller, heavy duty sway bar, hitch, trailer back up feature, 7 pin trailer connector, locking differential...

Does the fuel tank size drop even further?

It seems so counterproductive for max tow to upgrade certain components and actually *reduce* payload due to weight of those components. Like what was the point of the upgrade if the weakest link in the whole chain (payload due to suspension or frame?) is not upgraded with it?

Regardless, I am not going to cut any corners with the family's safety. Even though powerboost max tow does not get a gear ratio difference or a fuel tank upgrade, I'm still paying the full price to get those heavier components, whatever is the real story (brakes, drums, axle, bumper, coolant?). I don't want to be broken down and thinking "damn I should have spent the last $400 to get max tow instead of regular tow!"

I’m only towing an 8500-9000 pound boat/trailer unit so the stock 11,000 capacity is fine for me.

You will run out of payload WAY before you reach capacity. Personally, I wouldn't tow over 6000# for a travel trailer or 7000# of boat with a F-150. I have an 800# tongue weight on my 6000# travel trailer. If I had a 9000# travel trailer, that would be 1200#. Kinda hard to tow with the payload that the PB models will have.

Yep that is generally the case that you will run out of payload before any of the other numbers. The one place you might not is a boat since they dont carry much tongue weight. TT's can cary as much as 15 percent depending how its loaded with something around 13 being typical. Add in a WDH and you can easily lose 900 pounds of your payload sticker for even a small 6500 pound TT.

Yep..my 6000# boat only has around 350# of tongue. Will see what my new 7000# boat has that i pick up in a week.

I use a Sherline scale to measure my tongue weight.

In addition, a WDH adds another 75 to 100 pounds so that also needs to be accounted for when you figure out what payload you are carrying.

Yeah I have one also. My boat is 4800 pounds and the tongue weight is 450.

For those that can't afford, or, like me, are too cheap to buy a Sherline scale, this has worked for me for 30 years.

You just have to borrow your wife's bathroom scale.
