Impressions of my new 2022 F150 Tremor, back in a Ford and loving it
Hi,
New guy here. For the last 4 years my daily has been a Jeep JL Rubicon and before that I had a RAM Rebel for a few years. The Jeep has been fun, and I’ve enjoyed the small size when exploring our forest roads in the Northwest, but I wanted a bigger family vehicle with more storage and occasional towing. I considered a number of options:
Porsche Cayenne. I’m a diehard Porsche guy for cars, but after looking at new and used Cayenne options, I just couldn’t fall in love with the design. It could handle the towing and they are good off-road, but it lacks the storage, flexibility and I just find them a bit ugly.
RAM Rebel. I had one before and liked it overall. I did run into a number of quality issues that frustrated me and I’m not loving the way they incorporated the giant screen into the dash. The Rebel was a compelling option, but I had been there, done that.
New Tundra TRD Pro. Quality reputation, modern design, a great overall truck. I personally couldn’t get past the exterior design…that’s a grill only a mother could love, and I can’t forgive them for leaving off front tow hooks on an off-road truck. It doesn’t help that every dealer I talked to wanted crazy ADM and most said it could be a year or more before I got a truck…one that I couldn’t even spec exactly as I wanted.
Ford. My Dad has always been a Ford truck guy and I’ve owned some Ford cars in my past. I love the overall aesthetic and capabilities of the Raptor (who doesn’t), but I need something a bit easier to navigate through the city and that can tow a bit more when needed. When I started reading about the Tremor package, it stood out to me as an ideal option. More than enough off-road ability, more livable as a daily for me, stunning good looks and more attainable from local dealers. I love the design direction of Ford, exterior and interior. The grill looks structured and intentionally designed…more sophisticated which I like. The Rebel is a bit bull/stub nosed and the Tundra…well, I said enough about that one. I found a Tremor that was almost my ideal spec close to home, and I made the swap. 402A option package. Tow package. Moonroof. B&O 18 speaker setup. Front Torsten Diff. Work surface. Here are some initial impressions:
Looks, drives and feels every bit as good as I had hoped. Super comfortable, loaded with all of the latest features, plenty of power and easy to navigate narrow Seattle neighborhood streets. So much more comfortable than the Jeep and it feels capable of going anywhere…very confidence inspiring.
I had everything configured quickly without needing a manual…intuitive interface for everything. I love the combo of wireless CarPlay and the charging pad. I think the B&O system sounds great for a factory system. Loud, clean enough, no distortion. The interior much quieter which made conf. calls on the go easier. The folding shifter and workspace is a bit gimmicky but my son’s will appreciate a more stable place to put their McDonalds on our next adventure.
My truck came with the advanced co-pilot 360 / BlueCruise capabilities. I wouldn’t have added this to my spec if I had the choice. I’ll continue to experiment with this, but all of these hands free, self-driving features feel like beta products to me. Maybe on my next long highway trip I’ll find some value in it, but for general driving in and around Seattle, it doesn’t add much value and feels clumsy.
I with my truck was configured with the Bed Utility package…that feels like a no-brainer that the dealer should have checked. Mostly for the easier step-in feature…that should be standard on all of the trucks imho. I also wish I had the 2K power option instead of the 400w option. Useful for camping from time to time. Neither seem practical to retrofit, but I was happy that I could get a good deal on a truck already sitting on the dealer’s lot.
Tomorrow I’m putting on a RetraxPro XR tonneau cover. They all have their pros/cons, but this looks like a good one and I love the built-in T-Slot design for extra storage/RTT options. I’ve got WeatherTech all-weather mats on order and an appointment to tint the windows. At some point, I must find a way to address the rake on the truck. I know it has a purpose for towing, but it seems a bit over the top. I don’t want to lift the truck more so I may just remove the blocks in the rear.
Here is my Oxford white Tremor…I’m absolutely loving the design, inside and out:
Thanks to all of you for sharing your experiences on the forum, it helped me along the way in making my decisions!

Resurrecting an old thread. I’m in the exact same boat. Love my 2020 JL Wrangler Rubicon. But it’s hell on long road trips and we never drive it anymore. Looking at getting into a Tremor. Came from a 16 XLT. Thinking the comfort and quiet of the tremor will blow the Rubicon away.
