bud150,
My truck is a minimum optioned XL, so not much to interfere with. The mirror camera mounts with a stretchy strap over most all mirrors, a forward cam pivoting interior cam, are on the mirror itself. My rear-view cam is separate and the cable tucked into the headliner around to the mirror cam. Unit is fairly self contained, hard wired, and independent of any vehicle function other than wiring into a fuse box. All the displays and functions of the 3 cameras are displayed on the mirror as well as in vehicle playback. I store to a SD Micro chip , use a 128 and 256 GB chips to hold a lot of recording time around 12 hours continuous for 128 and 24 hours for 256 or more before looping past the first recording. I set mine for 1 minute sections, looped recording, always on with the truck. KM
Try here before cutting any wires. I have one of these in my truck and one in my Bronco. They work great, and are an easy install. Rearview Mirror Cable
Thanks for the tip mlarv, i ordered a Dongal connector and it’s installed. Works great. I used a piece of velcro to secure the little brick to the windshield so it doesn’t flop around, and i used a small cable tie to bundle the cables.
I use this gadget with a Garmin mini, super easy, picks up power from the auto dimming rear-view mirror. NOTE: it is current limited to 2 amps as that's whats available it the mirror, so pay attention to current draw of the camera you intend to use if your going to use this gadget. It is zero draw when the car is off as the mirror is accessory driven.

That’s what i bought. Love it. My B1W camera only draws 1A.
Looks like Dongar updated the design of their mirror tap. The voltage converter used to be tied directly into the wires of the harness where now they keep it separate. Probably a bit more versatile this way.
For others who might be reading here and want options, I’ve posted it a bunch of times already but when I did my dash cam all of the Dongar taps were sold out. So I just did what I did on my previous truck and bought one of
USB converters then mounted it up in the overhead console and tapped into the rear window switch. The switch is only hot when the key is on so it’s perfect. . The converter is rated a bit higher than Dongar tap at 3 amps and you can hide everything up in the console so a tiny bit less stuff down by your mirror and if you get one with the proper USB connector it will plug directly into your cam without the need of an extra cable. Not as easy as the Dongar tap is but works great. You can buy those USB converters with just about every kind of connector imaginable. My cam is USB-C so I went that route but you can also get them with a female USB socket just like the Dongar tap.

I like that idea, nice and neat........ does the overhead console come off easily ? Any tips.
I did order that dongar tap/adaptor but had to send it back, the connectors are not from the oem supplier and don't fit smooth like the oem, pin fit for me was very bad.Their tech was extremely helpful, I understand there may be an upgraded connector coming. Yes others were probably fine but mine was not.
