New owner of a new 2023 xlt double cab, i want to install 2 dash cams, one front, one rear. I could plug the thingie into the cigarette lighter socket (yeah i’m that old) but i would prefer to hard wire them. I’m ok with switched power, no desire to have them hot all the time.
So the question is … what’s the best way to do that? I have not done any investigating yet, but i did see a power inverter under the back seat. If i remove the cover could i tap into the supply side there? And where would be the least invasive place in the front? The truck only has 25 miles on it so i would prefer not to be digging too far.
Try here before cutting any wires. I have one of these in my truck and one in my Bronco. They work great, and are an easy install. Rearview Mirror Cable
The rear camera will have to be wired to the front one. I ran the wire just under the headliner over the doors.
I purchased a hardwire kit. There are two inline fuses with the kit. One goes to constant power and the other goes to switched power. I plan on running mine to the fuse box in the passenger footwell.
Space … that looks like an interesting device, but i read the reviews and there are a lot of negative comments. Overall poor quality, drains the battery, the mode switch doesn’t do anything. Pass.
I have a cheapish red tiger that I got off of amazon with front and rear cam that I had planned to hard wire into keyed on power but found that the power outlets turn off after like 10-15 minutes so I never ended up switching it over. Just an FYI that they aren't on all the time. I want to say you can change the length of time that the outlet stays on as well. I just tucked the wiring up under the headliner all the way back to the rear of the truck and then tucked in the power outlet wiring up under the trim and under the glovebox. No complaints. Of course if you DO want it to work while parked for security you will have to hardwire it to a battery power source with a smart switch.
I would definitely not recommend buying two separate dash cams and instead buying one that includes a rear camera.

I have a Blackvue which is a front and rear camera. I also fuse tapped a hot and a switched for the dash cam by the passenger foot area. I'm not sure why you are making this more difficult than needed.
