Default Another one

Sure wish I had seen this post before the axle bolt failed. They are telling me the axle is backordered until at least November

What is your F150 year, build-month, trim, and engine (or PB?), Please?

2021 3.5L Powerboost with max tow package. Don't know build month as I deserted truck at dealership for time being.

I wish I understood exactly what this bolt’s function is, mechanically. Although there are conflicting opinions on this thread, it doesn’t seem like it’s helping to hold on the wheel. But that’s a honking thick washer they’ve chosen, which seems to imply to me the engineers are anticipating a non-trivial axial load on the bolt.

Default Any my22 Job 2?

I have been following this thread for a while now.
I have a 22 701a PB max tow being built as we speak.
I don't recall if there are any job 2 22s having this issue, of so please reply. TIA

Agreed. The way many are talking (after doing way more research than I have and understanding how it all works better than me), the consensus is that once this bolt is broken, the only thing holding the hub and wheel on is the caliper bolts. To me, that bolt seems awfully small even combined with the caliper bolts to be the only thing holding the wheel on… but I’ve been surprised before.

NOTE - UPDATES TO THIS POST ENDED 5/30/2023. REPORTS OF FAILURES POSTED AFTER THAT DATE (post #1230) ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THE TABLE BELOW.

Just FYI, I've gone through every post in this thread and compiled the attached list of reported bolt failures in an Excel spreadsheet.

If you're among the listed with missing data (e.g. missing model year, build or delivery date, engine, miles), or if you spot errors / omissions, please post below and I'll add it later and post an update. The build month/year is on your door-jamb sticker, if you don't have access to that please post month/year you took delivery of your truck.

It's a given that all of these have Max Tow.

I was interested to see the total data summarized, thought others might be too, make of it what you will.

FINAL UPDATE 5/30/2023.

Would it be useful to track which side, driver or passenger?

Won't argue that but I'm not going to go back through the thread. Note that much of the data I compiled was not in the referenced original post but was found in follow-up posts, so ya gotta read every post to find complete data. If you want to compile that referenced to the Seq # in my table and share it I'll be glad to add it for the next update

I kinda figured it doesn't matter which side, my interest is trying to discern a pattern in the occurrence of failure at all on a vehicle; that being very distinct from trying to diagnose the cause(s), an exercise I don't think anyone can meaningfully do from afar (IMO).
