2021 F150 Mileage
Folks,
I just purchased a 2021 F150 FX4 (XLT) and i'm at about 2100 miles. However, my reading of gas mileage has been showing be 16.9-- 17.2 MPG. Most of these miles have been on the highway. Can anybody help me understand why its so low? Will i eventually get better mileage? Or really what the issue is?
Thank you!

Which engine do you have?

lets see..
trim level?
speed while traveling?
gears?
all these can affect MPG .. i have a super crew ecoboost 3.5 .. i get about 18-16.5 MPG highway at 65 MPH - 75 MPH .. its normal .. the BOOST part of the eco is sucking up your gas at higher rpms

I've learned to improve my lie-o-meter displayed mpg by limiting my speeds to around 60 and locking out gears to where 7th gear is my highest gear unless I am driving on highway. This has resulted in the lie-o-meter showing 20.1 mpg versus the 18.7 I was getting regularly before.

How are you unsure of your engine? 2.7EB FX4 with 3.55 rear end. Hovering just over 22 mpgs mixed driving going on 1900 miles. Did the math the past couple fill-ups and pretty spot on with the mpg shown on the dash.

It's a brick in the wind compared to a Corolla or even a small SUV like an Escape. Wind has a bigger impact on mileage than some other vehicles, winter gas hurts, new vehicle not broken in, your own speed and driving habits, a laundry list of things we go over on the 50,000 of these threads that get created. Your mileage is a little low but not horrendously low. I would give it some time and follow up around 5,000 miles and when it's mid-summer. I gain 2 MPG in the summer compared to winter, all other things being equal.
EPA ratings are made on fairly casual drives at 55 MPH or so for Highway. Especially in a truck, every 5MPH you go up has a large impact to fuel economy (as a percentage of overall fuel mileage). I see a difference on my truck between 70 and 75 of about a half an MPG.
