The guy in the 2.7L kinda fell asleep at the start so he definitely was not going to catch the 3.5L. Also I think he might have been a little closer with an aftermarket intake (since the 3.5L had one) and maybe even both drivers being in sport mode. I know the 3.5 would still have one but those 3 differences might have made it a little tighter race IMO.

The noticeable difference is that there was a tune to go with a more breathable air intake in the higher RPM range. Without a tune the aftermarket intake doesn’t do a whole lot. And technically it’s a SRI (short ram intake) and not a CAI since the air filter is located in the engine bay and not below it. And your right, the stock setup is really good if you do not ever plan on doing a tune.

An intake on the ecoboost does basically nothing. There's a couple horsepower from swapping to an aftermarket drop in filter in the stock airbox, but going to a full replacement intake picks up zero horsepower even tuned.

I'll say the same thing here that I said in the other thread about that TFLTruck video: No one buys a 5.0 because they think it outperforms the 3.5 or even the 2.7. The numbers speak for themselves. People buy the 5.0 because they believe it will be more reliable long term and/or they love the sound of the V8. You can dispute the reliability all you want, but that's just what many 5.0 owners believe.
I actually agree that the 2.7 is the most impressive of the three. Before I bought my 2019, I looked at the 2.7s first. Unfortunately they do not have enough payload capacity. If you order one with the 2.7L payload package, you can only get the 300a equipment group with the XLT. You cannot get the 302a or 301a, unless you buy in Canada. You will have to order one if you want the payload package. Your chances of finding one on a dealer's lot are slim to none.

^^^ @w00t692 knows, he tunes ecoboosts and has one of the fastest around.
We tested a few different intakes, stock, stock with filter, hood open hood closed, and roush and afe. Roush and afe added no power over a drop in filter stock airbox. We even used a pressure sensor to see if there was any bottlenecking when intaking air past the filter. With the hood closed there was but we figured out what it was and turns out on newer 18+ trucks it isn't even an issue anyways.

Two questions if you wouldn't mind:
(1) Was octane were the above stock numbers done on?
(2) from you measurements -- what is your unofficial, but best guess as to what the 2018 3.5 ecoboost and 2018 2.7 ecoboost actually putting out at the crank?
Here are my guesses:
Assuming:
- The stock ratings of the 3.5 and 5.0 are to be trusted (seems plausible, since many people are surprised by how peppy the 2.7 is)
- The curves on the graph are comparable between the engines (seems plausible, since 5star strikes me as knowing what they are doing)

I like seeing the Dyno comparisons. But the tuned versions are all for the Performance tune. Could we see comparisons for the Performance/Tow tune? I’ve driven the pure performance tune and personally hated it’s driving characteristics. Super annoying driving around. However, drop in the tow tune and it was soooo much better than stock in every way, especially shifting. I imagine the tow tune sacrifice some upper end power to keep the engines safe while pulling a load. I assume there are still some torque/HP gains correct?
