Tire question for the track

I run 315/50/17 Mickey Thompson drag radials which are about 29", and I typically just run my stock 275/55/20 on the front, which are about 31.5".... I also have a set of 275/50/17's lying around with stock steel rims on them, now they are 28" or really about 27.7" tall. Would it be beneficial on track day to run these "28 inch" tires on the front? My guess is that they are probably 25lbs less per wheel.....

If you're dropping 50lbs of rotating mas then YES.

Just wanted to make sure these smaller tires would be safe to run on the front where there's a good deal more weight

What are they rated for?

I still think you should try the 235/70/17's on those wheels. they're only slightly taller than your back tires.

Willing to do that. I just have these tires already and they are basically brand new.

I bought mine used on ebay. I think they're yokohamas….they had a little higher speed rating than other tires the same size...but I don't remember what it is right now

The load rating is pretty low. Sounds like it may be more of a car tire vs a truck tire.
I personally would prefer to run a tire with a higher load and speed rating for a truck. Something like a 112V.

If you're looking for a cheap tire I bought a set of Atturo AZ800's for $100/ea on eBay. Ran them on the video in my signature. Cut 1.7xx 60ft's with them and they have good load and speed ratings.
