Hello folks, new to the forum.
The wife and I test drove a new 5.0 F150 yesterday. It was a Supercrew with 3.73 gears. Wow, what a pig. From all the reading I've done on this forum I was under the impression that it would be able to get out of it's own way. When floored from a 5mph roll (in sport mode) the engine was screaming but we were going almost nowhere. People talk about getting low 14's to 13's but I'm telling you this pig would struggle to get high 15's. What am I doing wrong?
Granted the truck had 38 miles on the odo and it was myself, the wife and the sales kid but the motor just seemed to make a lot of noise and we weren't going anywhere too fast. My plan is to get one of these trucks and have Ford install a supercharger so I can have a warranty. But the truck was such a pig I don't think a charger would do much good...at least not worth the $8k-$10k effort.
Is there anyone on the forum that had Ford install a charger? I have a few questions.

Will I need to install an oil cooler? I have a boosted 370Z and without an oil cooler in central Florida I get 230 degree oil temps, with one I get 180-190. No one talks about them that I notice.

You should research the warranty some more. None of the kits maintain the factory warranty and you don’t have to use ford to install it.

A couple of things.
On my 5.0 4x4 with 3.73 it was VERY tight when new. First full tank taking it very easy was 14mpg on 87 octane. Now that I have 7,500 miles I'm getting 20 on the highway at 78-80 and 19 around town. First time I got on it was on the second tank full (750 miles) and it was pretty sluggish. Now that I'm over 8,000 miles the truck is still slow in 2wd, but only due to wheelspin. Don't really know how to calculate, but basically a 33% improvement in gas mileage from new to now indicates huge friction losses when new.
Just ran my first tank of E85 and it really woke the truck up. I'm struggling with 4wd launches using manual because I haven't been able to upshift quick enough to avoid tagging the rev limiter. Spins all four with ease. So far it seems quickest in sport mode and AWD and traction control off. With a combo of heavy foot and highway, mileage dropped to 14.9 on E85. When I switched back to 87 E10 it immediately went back to 20 mpg.
On the negative side: I was ok with the gas pedal response when new, but as the truck has broken in I'm more convinced than ever that Ford has dialed in pedal delay and sluggishness just to make the turbo motors comparable to the V8. I'm getting a pedal commander to take care of that soon. You can actually feel the throttle body opening slowly after stomping the gas. First is a time delay, then you feel it ramping up the torque. I don't know why, but once in a while I'm playing around and have an immediate throttle response. The difference is night and day. If the pedal commander doesn't give me full throttle on command I'll have to relent and get a tune that will. I rent a tone of cars and have never felt a computer working so hard to hold the motor back as this one.

I don’t know anyone who’s installed an oil cooler. However, several of us have elected to run higher viscosity oil to maintain film thickness under higher loads and temps.
