Default Strange Catch Can Findings

Upgraded from Whipple stage 1 to stage 2 and added Motion Raceworks catch can/ pcv delete on 6/13/20. Decided to drain can for first time yesterday evening and there was not a drop of oil, water, condensate, etc. in the can. I can smell the crankcase gases when sitting at idle and smell goes away when driving as expected. Decided to look closer at stage 1 air intake tube as the pcv system was intact with that setup. Ran my hand all inside the tube and no oily residue, factory throttle body looks clean also. Curious I guess as I have always collected crap in my catch cans on previous vehicles. Any thoughts?

I think the MW cans vent so much that not much collects when it’s hot outside. In winter mine would have quite a bit of crap drain out...the hotter it got the less I had.

That’s what I have come up with after some searching.

Heres about 15k miles worth from mine. Closed system though not vented like yours.

I just installed my Motion Raceworks Coyote Can on my 19 5.0 Whipple. I do wonder if I will experience the same. My 17 3.5 EB would condense a lot of water in the winter.

Curious, where did you mount your can, and how did you connect on the driver side cover?

I checked mine after about 3000 miles on the Whipple and it was dry.

If you look at my picture in the first post the can is visible. Beside master cylinder, mounted to firewall with an aluminum standoff so the can clears the line coming from booster to blower. The standoff I made fit perfectly in the factory cutout in the firewall insulator/ liner. I used the billet AN adapter on passenger side and reused factory fitting on driver’s side, just cut the hose off of it.

Did you remove the check valve on the passenger side pcv? Without vacuum it won’t open the valve. I took mine out popped the little plastic retainer out of the bottom and removed the check valve spring and ball from the pcv.

Nm I see you used the an adapter on the passenger side.

Mine doesn’t catch much either, my setup is similar.

Wow. My EB catch can accumulates a lot of junk in the winter....to the point where I need to empty it every 2 months. In the summer, it only collects a little and I can go 4-6 months without needing to think about it.

Now, at first I did their "high-flow" PCV fitting with is basically just a straight tube, and that can filled up in like 1 week. I would keep the PCV valve....

You can’t keep the valve on a VTA style can...there’s no vacuum to open it.
