Default Sloppy 5.4 turbo build questions

Me and my buddy have acquired a 98 Ford F-150 with a 5.4. Just for the heck of it we want to Turbo it. But we don't want to grenade this engine so we were wondering what's the safest max boost pressure for a 5.4 with stock internals,
and what turbo would you guys recommend. Is there anything we need to modify on the stock manifold besides injectors to make this happen? Thanks for the input will update with pictures when available.

we've turboed stuff before never this big! but we do know what we're doing

As with most cases, the max boost and longevity is much more dependant on engine management than boost level. Your main challenge will be getting the fueling and tune right. If you get that right, 6-9 psi should be doable.

boost depends on the turbo you use. 8psi on a T28 or K03 is a helluva lot different than 8psi on a G42.

I'm understanding the 5.4's in stock form aren't the most stout from other posts on here? A goal of 350-400whp should be pretty attainable though.

Plumbing for a single turbo on a V8 should be fun

You're looking at a safe max of around 450whp, above that you need to go into the engine. With the 2v engine, that might be a little lower, around 400 at the wheels.

If you can't have stupid-fun with 400whp, slide over and let mommy drive.

300 to 400 horsepower would actually be good with this considering it's just going to be mostly a "street machine"

400whp on the street isn't a lot anymore. 400whp is the new 200whp from 15 years ago. Especially in a truck, with the weight and the aerodynamics of a wall.
