S&B Cold Air Intake - Haters not invited.
#11

I'd like to get a S&B but the main thing holding me back is the fact that the same airbox on my 2.7 Eco is used on the 3.5 Eco (I think the Raptor as well) that makes more power. If it's good enough for the larger 3.5 Eco's then its definitely more than enough on my 2.7 Eco. Honestly you are better off buying a tuner and getting custom tunes for the money. You will get much better HP and TQ gains. Not hating on the S&B, just being realistic.

A couple of points there that don't apply to the V8: There is no doubt the airbox on all the trucks can flow more air than called upon, there is a question of how much power it is causing. With turbo's, especially in a stock-ish setup, the advantages would be questionable for sure. Might add some interesting intake sound though, which the eco needs more than additional power anyhow. :-)
Since this discussion was started regarding the 5.0 V8, the above info doesn't really apply though.

I missed the part about it being for a 5.0 motor.

How would I know? This thread is about the 5.0
Perhaps someone should start a CAI thread for the ECO

I don't hear any more or less turbo sounds after installing mine but i will say it's a nice piece. Very easy to install and the design of the box is awesome. You get all the benefits of an enclosed air box as well as an open filter design (it seals REALLY well with the rubber gasket that the box comes with.
Thanks for cluing me into it. about 90% certain it didn't pick up power that is noticeable to me (if it gained it would be less than 10 hp) but it looks nice for sure.

I have the S&B and uninstalled it a week later. My truck ran terrible with in. I was recently told it's the diameter of the inlet tube being larger than stock. It screws up the air sensor since the air is moving slower thru the larger tube. Basically, my point is it will require a tune. I do like the sound it produces and will reinstall soon as i decide what tune I'm going with.

I see your profile says 2011 - That's a different unit, did the instructions say tune required? Did you reset the PCM after installation? Are you sure the MAF was facing the right way?
