Post Oil weight and brand for the 7KRPM+club

Wondering what oil other folks who are running above 7K RPMs are using? It would seem that 5W20 is not adequate for that sort of use (just an opinion, based on experience).
My current setup runs somewhere in the neighborhood of 575hp (cranks est) on the street and 625hp on the track, with somewhere between 600 and 700 ft/lbs from around 3000 rpms. Shifts occur between 6800 and 7350rpm depending on the shift mode. On any week I burn about 10lbs of nitrous, and do about 40 or so full blast 4wd launches. (Nitrous isn't a lot cheaper, so let's not go down the "why don't you have a blower rabbit hole".

I was running 5w20 Mobil 1, Now running 5W30 / 5W40 Castrol Syntec. I don't hear of any failures, at all really, but a recent situation has me wondering....

5w-30 Amsoil SS, though after my next change I may make the swap to 0w-40, either the new Mobil 1 ESP or Amsoil SS depending on the results of my oil analysis. The oil temperatures in my duty cycle shouldn't get too high as I'm not towing and unlike my former Mustang, the truck doesn't see roadcourse duty lol.

Does anyone know if the trucks come with the Mustang style windage tray / oil pan gasket? I was pretty sure the 11-14 F150 5.0's did not come with the windage tray, don't know about the 15+ trucks.

FWIW the GT350 uses 5W-50 the factory.

Both whipple and roush recommend 5w50 in supercharged 2018’s.

ford racing coyotes run 5w50, 11-14 mustang gt's recommend 5w50 for the track pack and 5w20 for non track pack. Which means the engine is totally fine running 5w50

You can run 5w50, it'll drop a few horsepower for most likely no issues whatsoever.

The following is my 2 cents, and I've personally found that the best oil is the one that lets the vehicles owner get the most sleep.

Oil viscosity is influenced by temperature, and with regards to track pack Mustangs, the 5w-50 was a serious band-aid for expected high oil temperatures in a road racing environment. Nothing you will do with your F150 can simulate that kind of load except a Baja style race or maybe towing a max weight trailer up a mountain at sustained full throttle. When I tracked my Mustang I was seeing coolant temperatures over 240, and oil temperatures about 30-40 degrees higher then that (in a prepared car). At 280 degrees f, that 5w-50 oil is now effectively a 5w-20 or worse.

There are drawbacks to running a very thick oil, especially in some climates, and I don't think 5w-50 did Mustangs any favors outside of a road course. That said, 5w-20 isn't appropriate for a supercharged 5.0 either, so its up to the end user to determine what fits best with their usage profile. I know Roush recommended "5w-20" in the the past, but there are plenty of situations where that will not offer adequate protection to a 600/700hp engine. On the flip side however if they are now recommending 5w-50 per Engineermike, I can also imagine situations where that spec is overkill and is lowering efficiency and possibly increasing engine wear during a cold start (but would offer better protection in worst case scenario, like towing with a supercharged truck).
There was an article written many years ago now on Bobistheoilguy.com by a guy who went by Dr. Haas. He was wealthy, and was a car nut, and owned several exotic cars. He surmised that his usage scenario (daily driving no racing) did not require the 10w-60 oil some of his exotics specified, and went to prove his theory by performing a used oil analysis while he switched to thinner and thinner oils. He eventually landed on 0w-40 for his Enzo and 5w20 for his Murcielago lol. That was based on his daily driving habit where the vehicle never gets pushed. Take that Lambo to a road course and 5w-20 is completely inappropriate.

I'm going to be running a blackstone analysis on some Amsoil SS 5w-30, and I'll report back my findings. It'll be a couple weeks though.

As that was not always the case, it makes me wonder what precipitated that change.
