Default Mid 90's F150 motor swap to 1969 351W (help)

I'm helping a buddy with this truck so dont know the exact year but mid 90's F150 that had a 302 automatic trans in it. Removed all that and place a 1969 351W which I'm pretty sure was originally out of a cougar and have a C6 but have not put it in yet cause stall is to big and just wanting the truck to move so we can see everything is ok. Both are full rebuild but was sitting for 5 years or so before now. Anyway here is where help is needed right now. Installed electronic ignition so placed a o'Reilly brand FD05. I just dont know if it's the right one or not. The original number (or the one with points) on the side are Motorcraft 12177. Has a holley 600 4 barrel with a new rebuild kit and electric fuel pump. So when you try starting the truck it pops through the carburetor and the exhaust sometimes pretty good but when you get it started it sounds pretty good till you put it in gear then pops aand backfires then dies. Been trying to go through the check list but just need someone's help to get to the next step. I probably left some information out so fell free to ask any questions or share any input. Thanks and I appreciate everything in advance. Hope I posted this under the correct spot.

The original one with points

Orginal one with points

The one from O'Reillys that hoped would get us going.

He put number one cylinder top dead center and tried using a timing light after to tune but you cant see the mark very well. We have moved it little each way to see if we could get better results but none of them where great. When you jack the rear end up it would turn the back tires but when on the ground it just pops and backfires. I know almost everything point to timing that's why I'm questioning the distributor itself. I dont feel it the right one. It has a adapter to make it talker and it give a little wiggle on the cap. Not enough to keep it from starting but enough it would not run consistently if it would run.
it does have a aftermarket cam and I have read some that you have to change the firing order but I dont really understand it and we dont know what cam is in it. The motor and trans was built for street racing or street car.
He just sent me a message and said 8 degrees before or after TDC.

Definitely sounds like it could be timing, but I would double check the firing order. 8 degrees advanced at idle is low, but should be runnable. 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8. Distributor spins counter clockwise, cyl 1-4 on passengerside, 5-8 driverside.

Thank you very much. Did you find a cross reference chart or something you could share that I might understand. I've looked both of them up some and searched a few ways and cant seem to prove that it is not for that motor except pulling the distributor and looking at it. Your help is very much appreciated. Hope I can return the favors one day.

I simply went on o'reillys website, put a car in that has a 351w, searched the part number and it said it didn't fit.
