Intake Air Temp 3.5 Ego
 
I modified a 5.0 lower grille and installed it on my 3.5, by cutting out the areas between the fake louvers.
I'm NOT concerned with engine, CAC, turbo meltdown.
I would like to know from you guys that watch temp, what you would think an excessively high temp would be. I've seen 120F, 60-65MPH and mid 70F ambient. Should have monitored that temp before I changed out grilles, but didn't.
BTW, it's being read on an NGauge, as IAT2. Running an MPT 93PRX tune as well.

I have always seen 5-10degC higher than the outside temperature when driving at speed.... when sitting idling parked in the vehicle on a hot day i see as high as 50C Boost Air Temps

Great, looks like I'm still in the ballpark then. I just ran 120 miles at 75+MPH, 77F temp, and the intake temp pretty much stayed between 103-112F. Appears I'm going to be fine.
Ya, that temp comes up pretty quick when you're not moving too.

Yes, my temp, even with an aftermarket intercooler, still sits higher than ambient. I think some of it has to due with heatsoak of the TMAP sensor since its bolted direct to the manifold. On my stock intercooler I would see 190F+ while towing big grades.

That said, I believe the ECU does start to run into load limiters at around the 120F range, at least thats what I remember seeing in my 2014 tune on HP tuners. not sure on the newer trucks.

I’ve watched IAT’s on my blown 5.0 with both the EB insert and a 5.0 insert modded the same as yours...I see absolutely zero difference between the 2.

Before the FR FMIC, Cali heat, 120-160 range easily. After, normal is 125 cruising 70 in 100 degree weather, quite the difference.

Thanks guys, all good info. I didn't take into consideration any load limitations due to IAT. Appears I'm going to be alright, but looking into the limiting, might be a good thing. Anyone might know where I could start looking?

Buy HP Tuners and open your tune file? Thats how I managed it. It was a limiter to help prevent LSPI if I recall. My PC blew up and I havent had a chance to reload HP Tuners to look.

I know that with the stock intercooler the truck lost a lot of power during long/steep climbs while towing. It would get hot and start pulling timing and power and eventually would have to drop all the way to 3rd gear which is not typical. It generally could pull any hill in 4th without much effort.

No wonder you went to an aftermarket CAC. As it happens, I have the nGauge, guess I'll look around and maybe call MPT if I can't find what I want.
