The updated Ecoboost motors is probably what he is referring to, and their increased power and potential power.
As for your original question, your hesitance to use some parts vs others in efforts to protect the factory warranty are moot. If you roll into your dealer with a blown 3.5, and they see upgraded parts of any kind they can hook up to the ecu and tell if it has been flashed recently. While they may not be able to "prove" you had a custom tune, they can certainly tell if the ECU was recently flashed based on certain parameters, which would be the case if you blew the motor then flashed it before dropping it off at the dealer. If they really wanted to fight a warranty claim that resulted from damage caused by upgraded parts, they'd stand a pretty good chance. So your hesitance to upgrade things like the intercooler, which would be really beneficial, is probably misguided if you are willing to tune the engine, upgrade the charge pipes, and waste money on a thermostat.
At this point the ecoboost engines are a pretty well known quantity and most of the big name tuners know what they can push and what they can't. So a complete power package from someone like 5 Star is a good way to get it all done. Me personally, I've seen low 12 second 3.5EB trucks with upgraded downpipes and exhaust, intercooler, and water/meth injection. That's a lot of performance for not a lot of money.

That 2015 truck has FMIC, charge pipes, full exhaust, water/meth, 93 octane tune. 480whp and 545wtq!

Perhaps Ill have to re-think priority a bit and make an upgraded IC a higher priority. I’ve seen the full race and also the Mishimoto kits and both appear better than stock. The Mishimoto doesn’t require me to relocate it though so I’d likely prefer it.
Unfortunately I can only get 91 octane here at the pumps so I’ll have to just remain envious of the numbers people get on 93.

Get a stock location replacement intercooler and a gear head auto octane tune.

intercooler and however you can get octane will make a world of difference. E85? Methanol? I'm a big fan of methanol injection. Devil's Own makes good kits, though I always ran 100% methanol. More expensive, but way more effective. can drop your boost air temps by 40*. That's power in itself, without the octane effect. Other folks will do 50/50 methanol/distilled water. Inject pre-throttle body on a WOT switch. E85 maybe readily available for you, and using 5star or somebody, have an e85 tune ready to dial up.
I'd love to upgrade my intercooler just for the towing I do and the heat here in FL, but the prices are damn ridonkulous...about twice what intercoolers should cost only because it's a higher vehicle cost market. Half tempted to get a core and make my own end tanks.

Methanol kits are easy enough to get but no E85 in the area that I know of. Wouldn’t do me much good anyway as I often leave town to hunt, camp, etc. and need to be able to adjust my tune for the fuel available.
We have poor gas in UT. Only very recently have we started seeing ethanol free fuel in 88octane on a regular basis.
