Talking GH Tuning Review

Let me start by saying that I'm not being compensated for this in any way, shape or form. I'm just super stoked on the tunes I got from Gearhead! I loaded another tuner's tunes into my truck in January after GH said they didn't have the BDX version ready but it'd be coming soon. I waited, I bugged them, I waited, I bugged them then The day before i left on a 5k mile road trip GH went way outta their way to get my performance tune to me in time to load it in. WOW is all i can say, smoother shifting through all the gears, crisper throttle response, smoother kickdown into passing gear and 22.5 MPG average via doing the math, 24.6 if you trust the truck computer. I can't say enough good about Matt and the team at Gearhead Tuning. I'll be a customer for life!

I am interested in this one but i don't get their deal. Their stock dyno graphs are showing almost as much as hp tq at the rear wheels as the truck is rated for. What gives?

I run their tune on my 12 and it really meets all my needs. Their shift strategy greatly improved over stock performance and I like the auto octane adjust. If you want more power simply add better fuel. I used their tow tune to pull a 5k lbs worth of stuff and trailer 600 miles and averaged 15.6 mpg going over many steep grades. I highly recommend their tune if you want better than stock but plenty of safety built into the tune.

I am pretty sure they were picking up like 120 rwhp on the 3.5 EB.

They are showing high numbers because they are showing the stock truck with 93 octane in the tank. Ford rates the EB's on 87 octane(except the raptor), and it seems they pick up like 30 rwhp just by switching octanes and letting the PCM relearn.

I believe 5Star shows similar stock numbers as well.

Waiting for my AO tune right now. Running 5 star 93 performance right now and eager to compare. Their site appears to show hp at the wheels which makes sense given stock rated numbers.

Actually they say the ratings are done for all engines (except maybe the 3.3 not sure) on 91 octane. All the more premium engine options and all the ecoboost engine options are definitely rated on 91 octane.

this is why a stock 3.5 will make like 290-300 whp and 370 torque on 87 and 330 whp and 400 torque on 93.

I know the Navigator and Raptor have an astrisk on the websites that specifically say HP ratings achieved on 93 octane. And I thought I had seen the Platinum Expedition with 400hp was rated on 91.

Wouldnt 300 whp be about right for 375 crank when acounting for driveline losses?

articles I've read explicitly said the factory ratings on the new ranger were on 87. It picks up substantial power on 93. Like its WHP nearly matches the factory rated crank HP.
