Gen I ECU with a Gen II motor
So I've been reading a little about the differences between gen I and gen II coyote motors. I've been thinking at some point that a gen II motor swap into my '13 f150 might be doable, however I've also read about gen II timing components and cams not being interchangeable with any of the gen I stuff. Not that that is a deal breaker by itself, but I've also read that the gen II motors have a mid position lock on the phasers.
Now I'll admit I'm not sure what that means if anything, however it seems that gen II timing components would in that case likely be incompatible with a gen I ECU. If gen II cams are used (which are obviously more desirable) then all the rest of the gen II timing components must be used. Perhaps a work around for a gen II motor would be to use gen I mustang gt cams and timing components in order that the gen I ecu could be used with the gen II motor?
I'm not sure if there's a real question in there, however there probably aren't many who have swapped a gen II motor into a gen I vehicle yet, so I'm trying to learn in advance what would be required.
I'm aware that perhaps I could have my existing gen I heads modified to flow better and with bigger valves and stuff, however the cost of that is considerably more than buying an existing low mileage gen II motor that is already available.

Livernois just had their ported boss heads half off a few weeks ago. They were like 1300-1400 or so. No need to worry about the ecu pair them with even just stock boss cams which are cheap and you'd pull hard through 740p-7500 rpm

They were so cheap I almost bought a set to garage for a bit until I was ready. I don't remember the exact sale but they were damn near 50% off

If you want your cams to still be variable (not fixed) you want a Gen 2 PCM, also the firing order might be different between them as well, however it's been a while since I've dealt with a Gen 1 so my memory is a bit fuzzy...

probably the boss 302 heads would be easier, however at the cost they are now they're more money than a whole low mileage gen II motor.
first world problems lol

it's locking out the phasers I think that is of more consequence. Pretty sure switching the firing order in the ecu is no big deal. I think that's what blue 5.0 had to do when he had the mustang gt cams installed in his truck
