Default Exhaust size for forced induction

Most forced induction guys seem to be running headers as well from what I’ve gathered. At what power level do you believe a true dual 3” exhaust is worth while? Is a single 3.5” or 4” off the headers y pipe just as good?

I run a 3.5” single with an off-road Y-pipe and oem manifolds. There’s maybe another 20hp in there with long tubes but it’s gonna cost me over 3 grand to do the whole system how I want it. I’m making 14-15psi on 93 and I highly doubt it’s a choke point.

I’m running a 3.5” single as well and just battling trying to get the exhaust sound right. I’m tempted to go back to a single 3”, but also don’t want to hurt power either. What mufflers are you running on your set up

Is the MBRP 4 inch XP cat back too much for a street truck?

I think that’s overkill unless your really putting out good power. Going too big and you lose that nice rumble

Look at TXRipper's build Thread, He's running a stock cat-back and making over 700 at the wheel.

I don't think you need to go any bigger than 3".

I do not disagree, it's just out there and at a decent price (The MBRP). I even said to myself... "wow.. 4in dia" LOL

Oh yeah, I get it. I had a 3" MBRP and honestly the fit, finish and sound was not that good at all (I have a 3.5 and there isn't much out there that I don't hate for sound).

True 3" dual has gotta be well past 900whp and even then, I don't think a single 3.5" set up is really gonna hold you back (when paired with LT's)

A single 3.5" should be more than sufficient with good headers for 99.5% of the folks out there that actually use there truck on the street.

The problem with a 4” is keeping the volume down. Any type of straight thru muffler is going to be loud. That is before you get into headers and such.

i am running one so I know. I am running a chambered Heartthrob right now which cuts the flow that I picked up with the 4”pipe and it is on the loud side still.
