Default Dont change or update your custom or canned tunes!!!

It's finally happened, the gov has put a stop to Derive Systems (SCT/BDX) et al....

https://www.epa.gov/newsreleases/epa...defeat-devices

If you have what already works, keep it safe and DO NOT data log for updating (tweaking) the tune. DO NOT update your device if you use canned tunes. The only thing the device (new sales) will now be good for is tire size changes, axle ratio and the like. Well actually you can still data log just don't do anything with it.

That's not true. The software will no longer allow you to modify emissions equipment settings and error codes and the like.

How exactly do you think your going to run higher performance without altering emission settings beyond EPA specs? More info in this thread.

Well that article is from September...so unless something changed within the last few days which is the last time I made some custom tune changes the sky isn’t exactly falling just yet.

My guess is when the gov shutdown ends and they get back to business as usual. They are slow to do anything so it's anyone's guess when it's fully implemented.

This is just a forewarning not the sky is falling post.

Well, a friend of mine is actually a part of SCT and he gave me the scoop. When I get home I’ll elaborate. I’m driving now.

Higher performance does not necessarily have anything to do with altering any component that has to do with emissions equipment. The EPA does not regulate pcm programming.

Long story short, it’s aimed at the deleted diesel guys. Anyone tuning via SCT had to jump through a few hoops though.

OEM engine running parameter is stoichiometric or 14.6:1, in order to increase performance this must be changed by usually leaning out the mixture and boosting the timing which in turn creates excessive NOx which is exactly what the EPA has direct say so over in vehicles manufactured for resale in the US.

Been a very long time since I studied 5 gas analysis but that I do remember.

And if you changed cams, added CAI, headers, intake manifold, or any other component that increases potential power you need to reprogram. Better breathing requires more fuel. Simply advancing timing to remove some of the built-in OEM safety factor increases power without changing emissions. I'm not trying to be argumentative, but you are likely drastically overstating the issue. Time will tell. I guess it's a good thing I have HPTuners as well.
