What happens if you don't install the check valve?

A couple of months ago I think someone one here had the factory in tank pump upgraded for higher flow. I was thinking about doing the same thing but a quick search and I wasn't able to find it. I was thinking that it may have been DW that was doing the upgrade but I don't remember for sure. I wish I could find that post.

you just get a bit longer cranking time while it reprimes the line. I knew it needed one and forgot about it...check valve will be here tomorrow.

It’s the highest flowing in tank single pump on the market. Really easy install with a minor mod to the basket the pump sits in.

The whipple kit came with the pump and no check valve. I do get an occasional long crank, usually after a few hours in the work parking lot. Cold start in the morning is always very quick though.

Most people add the valve in the tank...that’s super easy for you now. I’m not dropping my tank again...I’ll add it inline at the front of the tank where the quick connects are. I’m gonna use the Dorman 800-196

Unbroken, how does yours start without the valve? Is it every time?

Not every time...sometimes it fires right off...sometimes it cranks a second or 2 longer than normal. There’s no pattern to it...no matter how long the truck has been off.

I just got word back from whipple that the dw400 fuel pump actually generates too much fuel pressure on hot start and the next cal will address it.
