Another Exhaust question

I have a 2009 F150 FX4 crew cab with 6.5 box. I have looked and looked on what to do to the exhaust to create low end torque.

From what i have seen im thinking of just cutting out the muffler and welding in a pipe in its place than leaving it single exit behind the tire.

Other option was cutting out the muffler and putting a Y pipe in and having dual 2.5 inch exhaust exiting out each side with tips.

Im trying to not redo the entire exhaust and just something from muffler back but losing the stock muffler.

I want better sound and low end torque.

So what sounds best out of those options or are their other ideas you all have that i may have missed?

None of your options will add low end torque.

All you will gain is noise and the sound won't be all that pleasing.

So what do i need to do to gain low end torque?

A 3.5/ecoboost

Or a 2.7

Well thats good exhaust advice......

after cats, go to a 2.25" pipe (dual at this point), merge those into a 3", or stick with 2.25" duals. Your only hope for low end power is to increase the velocity after the cats, and then merge them through a good X or Y pipe. You might want to header-wrap the pipes back to the merge and a little farther after.

When I was kicking around on the Nissan Titan boards, there was a fella that had time and money to mess around with this stuff. He tried 2", 2.25", and 2.5" pipes after the cats. 2.5 were great up top, but lost quite a bit down low. (dyno tested). 2.25 was stock on that truck and had a great balance everywhere. 2" fell on its face up high, but was great for blazing the tires at stoplights.

we're giving up 0.2 litre (12cid) and 1 exhaust valve per cylinder on that engine, and we have the longer stroke. Think about that for a couple minutes.

Thanks for the great info Eric Kleven. Just saw a few of your other posts and see your in MN too. Im just north of the cities in North Branch.

Cool, I'm bouncing between Mound, Minneapolis, and Lake of the Woods this time of year.

Let me know if you get anything done, I'd like to check it out. :D
