5.0 Street/Strip Builds
#61
So a little background - I've had (2) 5.4 f150s and a 4.6 mustang and now my first 5.0 F150. All vehicles have been tuned by different tuners ranging from PHP gryphon and 5 star on the 5.4's and a local dyno tune on the 4.6, so I've had experience with tuned vehicles before.
Regarding the Omega tune on the 5.0 I waiting for a while and did my research for awhile before deciding on tuning companies and right as I thought I had made my mind up I stumbled upon the omega tune - the last tune you'll even need - a tune that is optimized for all octane levels. That was the initial hook that got me. I was originally going to go with the mpt PRX tune until finding the omega tune, still I was hesitant and being an engineer I tend to over analyze and take longer to make decisions, and this was still the case. I found a group on facebook which if anyone is serious in building a faster 5.0 in this thread you should join the page - "High Performance 5.0 F150s" - and the tuner Ken Osborne is very active on this page, but he's not pushy with his tune. In face he doesn't do any advertising but he is active in responding with any question and has customer service like no other tuner I've seen and that is worth the price of the tune right there.
Regarding the tune if I had to describe it in one word it would be "perfection". And if you don't feel it's perfect Ken will do everything in his power to make sure it's perfect for you. The throttle response is greatly increased, shift strategy is leaps and bounds better than stock and sport mode revs out past stock redline tapping into hidden power. Yes it's faster than stock and I think I've only seen one person that wasnt happy with it but he admitted he was coming from a diesel background which you simply can't compare turbo diesel gains to NA gas applications.
If anyone has any specific questions regarding the tune feel free to message me.

Hope this isn't considered off topic but thought I'd chime in with power gains and impressions from my last build which was a 5.0 ....
I worked with Procharger with this build and they used my truck for R&D etc. .. Truck made 520 RWHP on 8 lbs on a Mustang Dyno and over 603 RWHP on a DynoJet Dyno. Mods included ProCharger P1SC worth stage 2 intercooler, Boss intake, Custom 3" mandrel bent off-road mid pipe with 3" Vassar x pipe and mufflers, 3.73 gears, etc. .. it would blow tires away from a 45 roll and had to take steps to help with the violent wheel spin and keeping the rear end stable. ..

I used a sct x4 tuner. I prefer the tuners with nice touchscreens to use as a gauge display but the x4 was the only one that could adjust tire size for the 15+'s
Nope. Don't think Ken advertises power numbers. Really don't care about numbers right now though, I care more about how it drives and use my track times to measure performance. If I decide to go with a big power adder I'll definitely do some dyno pulls. Dynos can be very deceptive depending on what dyno is use and also how it's configured. Perfect example is On3's numbers between a mustang dyno and a dynojet.

Bringing this thread back as surely now some of you guys have some more info. I am playing with my 17' RCSB 5.0 now and I will be going trying my hand at racing it tune only for a while until boost is in the budget. Ken will be supplying an Omega tune and undecided, but going to try a circle d converter in the truck as soon as I get a chance. I feel very confident that this truck tune, converter, and good tires alone should run in the 7's 1/8th. Would love to get this truck into the mid 10's and keep it daily reliable, but that won't happen until Whipple or a good turbo kit shows up at the door step. Anyone have insight to what their 15+ single cab weighs without driver?
