I think there are some safety features built in too. Much like the Lightning had if the IAT gets too high and such.

I don’t know if they have limiters like the mustang.

i do know from experience when the iats got hot the cal killed timing but all modern Vehicles do this.

whipple actually lowered the penalty because the LTR was heat soaking with out external fans - that’s really a band aid.

yes when the blower kicks in it’s like after burners...

and the whipple cal will never feel like this.

so it’s a trade off.

I’ve been driving it for so long now I’m 100% used to it. When I jump in a rental on my work trips it’s odd to have to push the pedal so far to get anything to happen.

if I had started with a tuner kit and custom tune and went whipple cal 2nd I would be embarrassed.

the whipple cal drives like an oem truck.

One of these customer tunes drives like a 800hp supercharged truck.

Ok so what would one expect to pay for a custom tune from the likes of Lund, where they are doing the remote massaging based on Dyno data etc.? Are we talking $1K or some smaller multiples of a hundred?

As someone who may likely go with a Whipple sometime in the near future I'd be interesting in hearing more about the above descriptions.

To me it sounds like some of these custom tunes behave like the OEM truck does now based on my experience with it. The 2018 5.0 gas peddle inputs already feel like an ON/OFF switch; and a very bad one at that. I'm more of an analog guy and would much prefer a gas peddle that feels linear and smooth only giving me a power level equal to but not more than my foot calls for. This of course only being based on how far towards the floor I have pressed the peddle. And ideally the engine would react to all of these inputs/outputs as quickly as possible without delay, hesitation or in an unpredictable manor.

I don't think I would be too happy with a custom tune that amplifies the existing behavior by going to 80-100% throttle only based on an Input of 30%. That sounds like it would be a nightmare under most driving conditions anywhere outside of the 1/4 mile track.

You have it completely wrong though. Daily drivability is smooth as glass. It’s not 80% output with 30% input...its very linear there’s just a lot more power on tap. It just a different driving experience that you have to get used to. Anything else is boring in comparison.

then the whipple cal is for you or a tune from oz tuning because they use the whipple cal which keeps the whipple bypass logic that no one else has access to.
