Default 2018 5.0 potential

I'll be the first to admit that I'm disappointed with the 2018 5.0 specs. The mustang gained 1 point of compression,20 ftlb of torque, and 25 hp. The truck gained 1.5 points of compression, 13 ftlb, and only 10 hp. It's obvious to me ford left a lot on the table. The compression ratio increase alone should have put it over 410 ftlb, but I digress.

Anyway, dustin whipple stated on the mustang board that their 2018 mustang kit will make 775 rwhp through the auto trans. This spells good news for the 2018 5.0 truck.

This is the exact reason I ordered a 2018 5.0 we might finally be seeing some true competitive power from a V8 stock compared to the ecoboost. I was talking with the service manager at the dealership I ordered my truck from and was discussing how long he though the torque was etc. A tune should surely bring those numbers up considerably.

This is what I am thinking is well. I currently have an Ecoboost but now that DI is making its way into the 5.0 I may not be on the Ecoboost bandwagon anymore.

That said, a whipple is what, $7000. I believe the 2017+ Ecoboost is making like 450 whp and tq tune only. Throw downpipes, CAC, and maybe upgraded turbos(like the 1st gen GT upgrades) at it and as long as the motor holds up it could be 600+ with only 3-4 thousand invested.

I highly doubt this will be the case.

No matter if it's a Ecoboost or a 750 up coyote , they're both going to have their weak links... Fuel system for the ecoboost and putting the all that power to the ground in the supercharged 5.0. I'm not sure if they made changes from 11-14 to 15- current piston rings but after learning of the tolerances of the rings on my 2012 build, I instantly lost my piece of mind knowing how less forgiving it would be if rattled it. I took 2 lbs out , pulled a little timing, and sold it !

For me, with road conditions where I live, and the tires i run my perspectives changed. I no longer cared about how much power I can make on a dyno. It's hard to put more than 500 rwhp to the ground... Peddling sucks, and lifting is even worse.

For me, the 3.5 ecoboost with supporting mods makes perfect sense for a Dailey driver. Sure, your not going to trap what you can in a 750 hp 5.0 but your gonna make your presence known with that 3.5 and your gonna make that 750 hp work hard for the win on the street.... While your saving thousands of dollars . ... Made being forced to have a quiet truck worth it !

The 2nd Gen eco shouldnt have fuel system problems, or not as big at least, since they are running port fuel injection as well now. Thats why I am saying, as long as the bottom end is stronger it should be a cheap 600 hp. The heads are better, tuning is better, etc etc.

right. Switzer (big time GTR builders) just swapped new turbos on a 2017 Raptor, upgraded the port injectors, and made 550whp on mild boost.....so that port injection with the DI on the gen2 3.5 is a real game changer.

My 2017 has the port injection on it and it's absolutely a game changer. I just switched my tune from the stock tune doing 60% direct injected 40% port injected to the exact opposite of 40% direct injected and 60% port injected so i can safely run e50+ and it's a real game changer.

Stock tune only runs anywhere from -1 to 0 degrees of timing in the midrange and max of 1-2 degrees of timing at peak power. After tuning on 93 it was at 4 degrees of timing in the midrange and 8-9 degrees of timing at 5800 rpm. Tuning on e30 mix it was up to 8 degrees of timing in the midrange and 14-15 degrees of timing at 5800 rpms.

Truck hauls *** right now.

Again, I don't think there is such a thing. Arguably nitrous is the only thing that qualifies.
