You mean the fans run ALL THE TIME? Dont they cycle on and off as needed for temperature? I will be installing my whipple next week. I purchased the fan upgrade. I was under the impression these were temp controlled.

Originally they came on with the key. Later on, they made them come on with the engine. Unless they changed it, they are not temp controlled.

Yeah, they run as long as the engine is running. It's the ONLY issue I have so far. It's not a deal beaker or anything like that I just wish they weren't on all the time. When I am leaving for work in the morning and it's 50 degrees out I don't need the fans running and making noise when they aren't necessary. Also, I put the ecoboost front bumper panel on, part number FL3Z-17E810-CA. Since the fans are on the front then, unless I am wrong, they would actually hinder airflow at anything above 20 MPH or so. I am probably going to install a switch this weekend so I can shut off the fans when I don't want them running. Unless of course someone else has a suggestion.

How about a temperature controlled switch rather than a static on/off switch?

The problem is that the temp setpoint would be dynamic and there is no existing temp measurement of the intercooler water. Consider that if you had the fans come on when the water temp reached 100 deg f, then on a 30 degree day that would be way too late. I think to do it right you would need to add a thermocouple to the intercooler water and build a comparitor into the ecm that turns on the fans when the water got X degrees hotter than the IAT1. It would require another harness, more I/o port reconfiguring, and some more code in the ecm. I'm certain that whipple can handle it, but is it really worth it? My EE buddy was going to build me a standalone version of the above but I got used to them being on all the time and lost interest.

The only thing with a temp switch is that, unlike cooling fans on an engine, heat exchanger fans are cooling the fluid going to the intercooler. Colder intercooler air equals more horsepower. You don't necessarily need the fans on at any certain temp, you want them on to cool the intercooler to make more horsepower. So, for example, I don't need the extra horsepower while I'm in the drive through at In N' Out waiting for my Double Double. Or while I'm idling in the drop off line waiting to drop off my kids at school. I am guessing that the fan kit is to keep intercooler temps down while, for example, staging in line at the drag strip. I could be totally wrong about this whole temp switch thing and what the heat exchanger fans do so please forum members, chime in and give me your opinions and suggestions.

I elected to not get the fans for mine...easily added later if I see a need for them.
What about an adjustable temp controller like Flex A Lite uses with their fan kits?
