Default Worth taking the risk and buying?

Looking at a F150 for a reasonable price, but not sure if it’s worth it/owner tellijg the truth.

2011 off road, access cab, max tow package, lumber rack, 4x4, 115,000 mikes, clean title, lumber rack, asking 12k

Guy says the check engine light is on due to bad camshaft position sensor, but runs fine and is still his daily driver.

My research says camshaft position sensor will present with poor performance. Guy claims truck runs great... Also claims for dealership will give him $17000 for it.

Thoughts?

Have him drop it off at your own mechanic for a lookover.

No one and I mean no one would sell a truck privately for $12K when they could get $17K. Run, don't walk.

Dealer will offer wholesale. Seller should easily get more selling it privately. Have your own mechanic check it out if you're serious about buying it. People will say anything to sell something. Once you buy it it now is your problem. Asking price is irrelevant- what you pay is the only important number.

At least have the code read to know what it actually is, you don't have to just take his word for it.
