Those dates might be off, I remember because 04 was my last year at the dealer and we were just experiencing the plug thread failures and my parting thoughts were...... DAMN GLAD I'M LEAVING the dealer.

Warranty pay to fix the issue was comparable to feeding crumbs to Ethiopian villagers.

Coolant flow had nothing to do with it. It was a failure on the design team. They tried to stretch the strength of aluminum to the extreme, when you think of the pressure in a cylinder (125psi) minimum and try to seal it with 3 threads of aluminum, ... well it don't take a rocket scientist to figure out the weakest link.

There were very few 03s that got 8threads but some did. Most but not all 04s got them, was very random honestly.

As far as rear plugs blowing mostly, I understand completely it was the flawed head designed but the fact that those 2 cylinders did get less flow makes me wonder. Not saying it was a factor but it is a fact. Because of that a lot of guys are drilling and tapping there driverside lower manifold to tie that side into the passenger port.

Thanks for all the advice. Good news. The hole was not stripped. I didn't realize that the plug only went in a little ways. It would start fine and then suddenly stop going in after a few turns. Finally, I pulled another plug and reinserted and discovered that it did the same thing. Now I see that there are only three threads, thanks to Rnlcomp.

Anyway, all is fixed and the truck is running great.
