What kind of gas do you put in?
I have an 06 F150 Lariat 2wd. I am currently putting in 87 octane. What do most people put in? Is it better to put in 89 or 91? Performance wise is 91 give the truck a noticeable increase in power or performance?

i would recomend running just what your manual requests there is no felt power gain from running high octane gas unless you are running a programer that requires you to run 91 or higher on a certain level otherwise save your money and run what it callsfor!!

no problem man i run 93 just because i have an edge tuner that requires it in level 2 and 3 but when i didnt have the tuner i think i only ran the 93 once in a blue moon just to clean everything out cos all it does is burn hotter and put a hole in your wallet lol!!

General rule of thumb I've gone by is to run the lowest octane that doesn't cause detonation or pinging.
Reason being that octane is essentially a measure of resistance to ignite. High performance engines need higher octane to ensure that the spark ignites the fuel, and not just the heat of compression - which causes pinging in gasoline motors.
Running a fuel higher in octane than really needed can lead to excessive carbon build-up in some cases - plus there's the added costs of the stuff.

Just for reference...
My truck (also 2wd) gets 15.6 average when on 87 octane. When I run 91, I only average 13.7 consistantly. I also feel that the truck actually runs worse with 91 in it. 89 yields no difference in either performance or economy arenas so I choose not to buy it. Our trucks ECM fuel mapping is actually programmed for 87 octane.

I run 87 in the F-150, makes no differnce if I put 93 in. I've tried.
I run 93 Shell in the Mustang which is programmed for that with a Xcal 3, if I put 87 in, it would run like CRAP....
Go with factory suggestions ( usually 87 or 89 ) unless running a pragrammer or forced induction... Then you usually need 93 or whatever your programmer is set up for

Generally been running 87 octane. Since I got my programmer though, I have been mixing a bit of 87 and 93 in the tank to keep the octane up a bit. I have retarded the timing a bit to compensate too. I also run a bottle of Techron through the tank once in a while too. One of our field engineers suggested it.
