Default Valve Chatter

Hi, I just bought an 1995 F150. It is amazing. One owner 80,000 original miles. However, on the way home it started ratteling real bad. If i let off the gas after shifting it would quiet down.To me it sounds like maybe the lifters. It is definetly the valves. and the motor is rocking a little bit. si, the motor is rocking and all of a sudden it like takes a gulp then , revs up repeat. Can anyone help me because I have no clue.
Thanks, J

well for starters, I would do a basic tune up. Throttle body cleaning, plugs, any intake sensors(make sure you use mass airflow cleaner on intake sensors, not brake clean). next i would check air cleaner and all air intake connections. My next step would be to change all relevant fluids for your vehicle. Next would be to change fuel filters, that probably hasn't been done in a while. Next i would run a tank of premium and some fuel system treatment. That will at least rule out simple things that you can do yourself.

Not really a Maintenance issue. Post in the specific sub-forum for 1995. You'll get more responses, probably.

Sounds like maintenance to me! I see other threads in here that aren’t, but this qualifies as maintenance when you have to check on engine and engine control issues...no?

Maintenance is "usual" stuff. Things that you expect to do on a periodic basis. His problem is unusual.

We assume it's an F150 because you joined this discussion forum. So all you've told us about the truck is that it's a '95 - that's not much info. The more we know about it, the more useful our suggestions can be. Read this page, follow the relevant links, and put ALL the truck's details & history into your signature:
