Default Rear trouble?

First of all Hi, I'm new here.

I'm from sweden so my understanding of the english language is limited at times, especially when it comes to terms under the hood of a car.

I have just bought a Ford F-150 XL -98 (4.6L) and last week i started having some problems with it.
When at low rpms (high or low speed) it starts to stutter and twitch when going uphill, doesn't even need to be steep. It seems to be coming from the rear, but i can't tell since my EGR tube is broken so the engine sounds i hear consist mostly of ticking.

I also both hear and feel some banging when it downshifts from time to time, also from the rear. Could this be the differential, there doesn't seem to be any free play in the U-joint, but i don't really know how they are suposed to feel either.

Am I making any sense here? =)

Thanks for any help or ideas.

Could be a bad U-joint-they will either squeal or vibrate under load, or the clutches are going out if you have a limited slip-the clutches will cause the rear end to vibrate when you are making a turn, or if they are real bad any time its under power.
