If you took the driveshaft off of the truck and didn't index it when changing the U-joints, there's yer problem. Reread post #4 about jacking it up and running it.

bad shock can cause tire bounce especially after hitting a bump at highway speed. another possible cause is if this started after you installed your lift kit is that your steering geometry may be screwed up and causing front wheel wobble when you hit a bump.

This weekend I replaced the original U joints, thinking they might be worn and throwing off the balance of the drive shaft. I still can not get rid of the shimmy. It's not coming through the steering, and it's not constant. Feels like it may be coming from the rear end. It comes and goes sometimes when I let off the gas or add power and sometimes after braking. While replacing the U joints I didn't see anything visibly wrong with the drive shaft, so I don't think it's that, but I could be wrong. I do have a slightly warped rear disc rotor that causes constant shimmy when braking, but this feels more like a bad tire would.

Any suggestions? I don't know what else to look for at this point.

Thanks in advance for any help!
please check the run out in drive shaft. i had mine replaced because of a lost weight. now the new one has a runout of 014 thousand. needs to be replaced again.

when you had your front end fixed up, i'm guessing they did the ball joints? i know that before i changed mine if i hit a bump it would do a pretty bad wobble, i'd brake, and then she'd settle down until the next bump. of course, i definitely felt that shake in the steering wheel when it was occuring.

This is going to sound stupid but are the insides of your wheels clean? I forgot to clean them out after a mud session and had a horrible vibration. It was constant though and its most likely not your problem but you never know.

I am trying to figure out the same issue with my truck. I have an 04 F-150, 4.6L 4X2 and it's got 31,500 miles. My first vibration issue came up around 6000 miles and found I had a defective rim and it was replaced under warranty. Tires road forced balanced and was good after that. Now it's been that way since around 28,000 miles. I've had my tires aligned twice and each time it's been out on the right side. Sometimes it shakes bad enough the bed of my truck bounces. It's discouraging to hear it's happening to an 09 truck.

230,000 miles on an '09? Man, do ever come in off of the road? Hopefully our issues won't be related, but when my '86 F-150 4x4 had an intermittent vibration (shake) especially after a bump or pot hole, it turned out to be a cracked frame in the front near the steering box. I'm not talking "hair-line" either. The two ends of the frame could move apart and closer together (with a little force) causing extreme and sudden alignment changes. Previous owner welded angle iron between frame ends to stiffen it all back up but his weld broke and I got to enjoy a ride meant for the county fair.

Oh crap. I just realized what I typed in the original post. It's a 2000, not 2009. I was out looking at new ones that day and had 2009 on the brain.

I've still been trying to track this down. One thing I've noticed is that since the weather has turned colder, the intermittent shaking has almost completely disappeared. It's still there because between cold snaps it warmed up some and during those days the shaking would pop up. So the cold definitely has helped. Could that be a bad shock causing it?

Man I've got the exact same problem and it only arised after I had new tires put on, had them balance twice and still the same thing? Can figure it out.
