EGR error

EGR error
I have a 2000 F150. It is a 4.6 liter. It is pulling an EGR error code. I was wondering if anyone had this happen to them, or if anyone knew a good course of action for fixing this. I have been told that Ford now offers a new EGR sensor that is not so easy to give codes. I have also been told that I could take the intake off and clean the pathways for the egr air to flow. Trying to decide on a course of action. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

hey I had to replace the egr valve on my 99 f150 and it didn't fix my problem so maybe your best bet would be to clean the port holes under the entake manifold. I haven't done this yet but I recently heard about it and I'll probably try it myself I let you know if it fixes the problem!

EGR sensor
I just replaced my EGR sensor on my F-150. That was the problem, not the valve itself. I drove around for a year with a check engine light on after I changed the valve and then started looking to other things that might be the problem. Found out it was the sensor, $45.00.

I fixed my EGR code. I took off the intake manifold and cleaned the two egr passages in it. They were amazingly dirt. One was sealed shut and the other may have had a pinhole in it. The stuff was pretty hard too. It was fairly easy to do. I recommend anyone having this problem to check this first.

EGR fix
My 2001 4.6 had an EGR code come up and what ended up fixing it was the DPFE sensor. I don't know what that stands for but that's what the dealership said it would take and it worked. I tried replacing the EGR first and it did not help. Anyone in the future might try this sensor, only around $30.

Sorry... I don't think it is called the intake manifold. It is the piece the throttle body is connected to. I think it's called the throttle body elbow. maybe...

Most likely the dpfe sensor it's a pretty common problem, to test your egr valve hook a vacuum pump to the hose on top of the egr valve and with the engine running pull a vacuum and see if the engine runs rough with a vaccuum pulled if it does then your egr valve is working
