Default Transmission help!!!

Hello and thanks for any help in advance. I have a 2006 F150 with the 4.2 v6 in it with 151,000. I have drove the truck just fine for about a year and have done the basic tune up too it, new plugs and wires, fuel filter, cleaned the air filter and a bunch of front end work. But the other day at a stop light when I let off the break and hit the gas, my truck revved up and then slammed into first. The shift to second is okay and the truck drives normal as long as I don’t take off from a stop. The weird part is when I manually put it in first it takes off fine and so are all the other shifts. Anybody have any idea on this?

You sure you are checking it correctly ? Engine running trans in N, or park depending on what is required ? It sounds like your fluid level is low or the trans screen /filter somehow fell out of the front pump. You may want to drop the trans pan and investigate , change the filter at the minimum.

I checked it how it told me too, idling in park and it was at operating temp. My trans now is making a high pitch Almost whining noise. And ideas on that?

Sounds like fluid starvation but that’s just an educated guess. I wouldn’t drive it until I dropped the pan and changed the filter . You are going to damage it running it when it’s having trouble getting the fluid volume it needs .

I changed the fluid and filter yesterday, the whining noise is now almost but now I here some kind of noise coming directly from the Pan itself, almost like a tapping noise that comes and goes, it’s not constant and the hard shift into first after coming to a stop is still there. Any more suggestions?

well they said my transmission is very low on pressure and and that’s the reason it’s acting this way. So my next question is how to determine what transmission I have. One shop said I have the 4R70E and another said 4R70W. There is the letter W on the driver side of my transmission, does that mean I have the 4R70W?? Any help is appreciated greatly. Just in case I have a 2006 F150 with the 4.2 engine.
