Default Changing transmission fluid

Have a 4.6 1997 and the transmission slips every now and then. How do I flush out the old fluid and put new in? What are the steps or is their pictures on how to?

Thanks

How many miles do you have? If its already slipping then its probably too late to change the fluid from what I've heard.

Start with a few pan drops, easy and will slowly get the old fluid out. You can also do a full fluid exchange. I'd suggest a couple bottles of Lubegard Red with the fluid to see if the esters in it help.

Putting clean fluid in the system might make your problem worse, the thicker old oil help fill the cavities up better than new thin oil. Not sure if there are any adjustment for that year of truck, try and find a service manual online or at a auto parts store.

^ The new fluid is always a good idea. It's an old myth that new fluid kills them. Getting the contaminants that are in the old fluid is a good idea. If it's on its way out at least you give it a fighting chance with newer fluid instead of increased wear with contamination. Oxidation (or burnt fluid) does not necessarily mean an increased viscosity of the fluid.

My truck has 107,000 miles. I changed it and it's doing the same thing. Basically what happens is when I go from Park to Drive, give it the gas.....the engine idles up for about 3 seconds and then the gear catches. It happens sometimes when I leave a traffic light but not all the time.

Any ideas?
