Tilting the bed method of changing fuel pump
#12
Anyone have any ideas. I haven't had this issue since I left the fuel pressure gauge connected. It's a test gauge, so I have to get a fuel rail mount gauge and leave it on permanently. I don't understand why it has corrected the issue, but it's working.!

Let me ask a stupid question... when's the last time the fuel filter has been changed ?

Back to original ? If you do need to change the pump I find it easiest to unbolt the bed, disconnect filler neck and wiring and then with a helper lift and slide the bed back a couple of feet and leave it sitting on the frame. That way you won't be knocking out the 2x4 and busting your bean.

This morning it was it was 50 degrees, a sure temperature for it to fail. I have had the pressure gauge connected since yesterday. Turned the key on and the gauge went right at 50 psi, started it and the pressure dropped to 30 psi, and was acting like it was going to die, then suddenly it jumped back up to 50 psi and stayed on. It has to be the fuel pump, what else could it be. It's just strange that it only fails with this scenario. I guess I will be putting in a fuel pump on Saturday.

Wanted to add on the OP, at the dealer I worked at, we would remove all the bolts on the passenger side, loosen the bolts on the driver side and raise the bed from the passenger side, chock it with a 6X. No need to disconnect any wires or the filler neck and allowed us to safely get to both tanks, think 80's - 90's but is just the same even today except with only 1 tank.
The smaller Ranger series we would remove all the bolts, filler pipe, and disconnect the one wire connector in back, two guys one on each side and slide the bed back and rest it on the rear tires.
