suspension questions.....???

Ive just bought a 2007 F150 FX4, 120,000 miles. two things Im trying to figure out.
1. when I am driving down the road, if I hit a bump, like a sunken manhole cover, the rear end will bounce around. Handling after the bump is lousy. I checked the shocks (rear) and they were gone, so I replaced them. I expected to get back on the road, and have no issues... but... there was hardly a change in the handling. Hit a bump...bounce around. I do know the shocks are new now, and they are working well, but what could be causing the bounce in my step?...
2... I am hearing a sound and feeling a bump that tells me I may need new universal joints.. The bump usually happens when i press on the gas, and go to accelerate from any speed. Sometimes its just a small vibration for a few seconds that feels like your crossing the white line on the highway and getting into the textured pavement.... other times it feels like the rear end is not meshing well...??

any insights??

I'd start with checking your wheel balance. I had a front wheel out of balance and it was only noticeable when I'd hit a pothole or turn the wheel aggressively.

I will be getting new tires in a week or two. Just put new shocks on, and that helped. I think the little bit of bounce that it still does only happens because the truck was empty. I hauled some firewood yesterday and it was fine.

still having the other issues with the drivetrain though.
