Struggles to start
I have just purchased from a private individual, a 2010 F150 5.4 L super cab. After driving it for two days I went out to start it this morning and it really struggled to start. It did not sound or feel like it was not getting fuel, it felt like it was electronically being prevented from starting. After the third try the battery was struggling To power the starter and right at the last moment it started. I did noticeable a funny smell in the exhaust for a moment, could have been flooded. Any ideas out there?

do you know whe the last tune-up was ? how old is the battery?

I'm suspicious of the battery, I'll get it tested today. I'm going to contact the previous owner and also get a car fax on it. It's at a critical stage for some industrial maintenance, tranny flush, rear end lube, tune up, etc, I need to see whats been done. Box of chocolates for sure. Thank you for your input.

Yeah.. if you can not get a maintenance history on her just do it all and you will have a baseline.

Replaced battery, spark plugs, coils, antifreeze - now it runs great. Next step, I have cause to remove the bed, I have removed the six torx bolts, three at the gas cap. I’m using ratcheting straps and a come-a-long in supported rafters to lift. I have it about two inches off the frame but can’t get the gas cap to release from the bed. It won’t pull through. I don’t want to apply too much force. It seems to be corroded to the bed. Am I missing something?

once the gas cap has pulled through the hole in the bed follow the hose down and you will see a clamp that holds the hose on to the fram. You will need to remove that clamp in order to free up the gas line. You may even have to remove the clamp before pulling it through.
