Starting issues with rough acceleration
Hey everyone,
I have a 02 with the 5.4. I have loved this truck and have had no issues in the 10 years I have owned it. However I go a new job where I commute to work and you all know how wonderful the gas millage is with these trucks. Anyway my truck is no longer my daily driver. My truck has been sitting, with the battery cables unhooked, for about 3months. We got a bunch of snow and cold, Montana, and I went to start my truck up and no luck. Went through all the normal stuff. Was finally about to get it started. Drove it for about an hour and parked it for about 3 hours. Went to start it again did not start. It has to be the battery right? I got a brand new battery and still had the same problem. The cabin lights everything works perfect with full power But I get nothing when I turn the key, no turn over no click no nothing. I play around with the ignition for about 10 min and it starts right up no issues. So I am thinking something with the ignition. However when I got it driving again I drove it all day no issue but at the end of the day driving home I noticed a really rough acceleration. Shakes the whole truck and no get up and go. I fill up the tank with new gas thinking maybe bad gas. When I start it up again the check engine light comes on. I check the code when I get home and it says cylinder 1 misfire. I clear the code and I park it for a few days. I try the truck again and have the same "ignition issues" but am able to get it started after about 10 minutes again. Drive the truck and it is driving great no rough acceleration no issues. End of the day the acceleration issue comes back.
So my question is, Am I dealing with one cause for both issues or do I have a crazy coincidence with two separate problems.
I do all my own work on my vehicles and have some plans going forward just wanted to see if there was any ideas out there that could help me narrow down my future "fun".
Thanks in advance

No crank means no rotation of the starter, which is how I read it.. The ignition system will not cause this. For the no crank issue, I would make sure all connections are clean, especially where the ground attaches to the block. Otherwise, when this happens you will have to troubleshoot where you are losing power from the ignition swithch all the way to the starter. As far as the P0301 code goes, after clearing the code, try swapping coils with another cylinder and see if the code follows the suspect coil.A faulty plug would be the other item to check. Remember do some diagnostics first because other items can cause that misfire including an injector, which you can swap with another cylinder too.
