Question Service Design Motorcraft Brake Caliper

I'm going to replace my brake calipers on my 2010 F150 Lariat. Looking on RockAuto, I see Service Design vs OEM. The Service ones are coated. Is that the only difference? Thanks

WHY are you replacing them? They are NOT maintenance items, and Ford recommends NEVER opening the hydraulic system except when necessary. It's NOT necessary just for brake maintenance.

I'd guess it's the extra parts. The calipers are ready to install. $13 for the extra goodies. The OEM remans look like they're coated too, but, by the pictures, they might not be prettied up for open wheels. They have writing on them. Read the descriptions.

No, this is the right section. And I'm just looking for an answer to my question, too.

If I had the original calipers on my 2010 in 2022 I'd be changing them too. Why wait for a 12-year-old piston seal to fail?
Myself I replace calipers ever other pad change, roughly 80,000 to 100,000 miles.

My calipers have well over 250,000 on them and never a problem. If it ain't broke why fix it?

@501OldMan

The 'service design' includes the mounting bracket, the OEM is caliper only

Why wait for a 12-year-old steering knuckle to fail? Why wait for a 12-year-old fuel pump to fail? Why wait for a 12-year-old piston rod to fail? Why wait for a 12-year-old frame to fail? Why wait for a 12-year-old wiring harness to fail? You can put any part name you like in that question, and it's exactly AS-valid. But that doesn't make it SENSIBLE. Ford determines what parts need replacement on a schedule, and then lists them for you in the maintenance schedule. If it's NOT ON THE SCHEDULE, it never needs to be changed, unless it fails a published test. All 7 of my trucks are over 12 years old, and I've only replaced 2 calipers (on 2 trucks).

Have you even read the maintenance schedule for your truck? Have you ever gone down the list & done EVERYTHING that's on it? What about the owner checklist? Like flushing the undercarriage, or cleaning the body drains? This is the checklist for mine:
