Default Rounded oil pan bolt head removal

Anyone have any experience welding a nut to an oil pan bolt? I have one that is very badly rounded, and can't think of any other way to get it off. I've seen videos of using a flux core welder to weld a nut to the bolt head, and that seems to work well.

Maybe try a pair of channel-locks or a cold chisel first, you have nothing to lose. To use the chisel, tap it fairly straight into the edge of the bold head to give it some bite, then angle it to drive it to unscrew the bolt.

Never welded on an oil pan bolt, but have welded nuts on other rounded bolt heads. It always worked for me. The heat from the welder does a great job of freeing the bolt.

welding will need a good ground. dont want to ground it too far from the arc.

Welding on vehicles kinda scares me what with all the solid state electronics.

Just ground it to the negative post on the battery. Ground is ground, right? How could anything possibly go wrong?? ......

JOKING -- DEAR ORIGINAL POSTER, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DON'T DO THAT !!!
If welding is the last ditch, disconnect the battery and ground the welder directly to the engine block. The old plug will likely come out with ease after welding a nut to it.
