random engine shudder/vibrations 2016 3.5EB
Hi all,
So I drive a '16 F150 King Ranch, it's the 6 cylinder, 3.5ecoboost. I absolutely love the truck but am encountering an issue that I hope someone may be able to shed some light on...fair warning, it may be a little difficult to explain; but, for those that are also experiencing it, I'm sure you'll know what I'm talking about. So randomly while driving, I'll notice a pretty significant shudder/vibration coming from the front end/engine. (First off- it's not in need of a tire rotation, I did that hoping it would solve the issue, but no luck) The Shudder is audible too- not just a feeling...it sounds like when you're driving on older 2-lane road, and you drift onto the center line/outline lines that are ridged, and vibrate when you drive on them. That's pretty much exactly what it feels/sounds like. It most usually occurs while I'm coasting between gears....so not while accelerating, or decelerating, but usually shortly after the engine has gone up from 1st to 2nd then 3rd. I've actually gotten to the point where I'll have a feeling that it's about to happen, and rather than cont. normal acceleration, I'll give it a little extra gas/up the RPMs, and it WONT happen...not sure if that offers any insight. I don't think it's a transmission issue. To list the maintenance on the truck over the last couple years- I had the Throttle Body replaced last year, it was gunked up bad, and have since installed a Catch Can. I also just had a leaky gasket valve cover replaced- it was dripping oil onto the exhaust and causing some smoking out of the passenger side of the engine compartment- the issue is since resolved.
I maintain reg. oil changes, and overall keep the truck in pretty good condition. Anyone have any thoughts? I'm not ready to take the truck in to be diagnosed, since it still drives fine, temperature maintains even, not burning oil, etc....but I fear that leaving this issue unresolved may lead to further issues/damages down the line.
