First Oil Change at 1K miles?
Hi folks. Just picked up our '18 3.5EB this weekend. Not long after, I heard my Dad's voice reminding me to "change that oil at a thousand miles!"
I think the logic is that there are bit and pieces leftover from the manufacturing process that an oil change will remove.
Is this an urban legend (from 50 years ago?) or is there real some benefit?
Don't mind doing it at all.

There are literally dozens of posts like this.
Read this: https://www.f150forum.com/f38/when-s...mation-372752/
In short, ignore your Dad (yet again).
After you read that post, read your manual.

Removing all the bit's and pieces is what your oil filter does..

This is still used in motorcycles and in other small engines, but not in cars anymore (well, most of the engines I guess).
Just wait until your truck asks for an oil change... 10k/1year (or less, depending on your use) and avoid towing anything before 1-2k miles. It's written in your owner's manual.

It's not going to hurt anything. Do it if that's what you're comfortable with.

This. I did mine a 1200 miles to switch to full syn right before a 2500 mile move from MA to UT. It really doesnt matter though. The stock oil is perfectly fine until the normal change interval is requested.
And as mentioned, if there is crap in the engine it is very quickly swept up and deposited in the oil filter. No oil gets send into the engine without first going through the filter.

Those particles in the oil actually help seat in(break in) the engine, its sounds bad but that liquid sandpaper is actually whats polish the engine parts..cylinders, pistons, sliding parts..
I have noted some engines in the past that got the oil changed at 50 miles..500 miles..3000miles. then the engine didn't get broke in and consumed oil for up to 20000 miles. The engine didn't break in forever.
Todays engines are very tight and close speced then in days gone by. I wont change oil any less then 7000 miles. you can change oil too soon as the additive package takes a while to be energized. By the time the additives were kicking in people like to change the oil early. BITOG has all this and more..everything you wanted to know about oil but was afraid to ask...
